POAMs, Remediation Timelines, and the Work Between Audits

Most IT environments have documentation. Fewer have someone who actually follows up. Ryan’s role at AdVran is the follow-up: he works directly with clients to deliver cybersecurity consulting, authors Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs), and keeps remediation on schedule. His clients have maintained zero non-compliance findings within mandated timeframes.

Before AdVran, he spent four years designing training programs and managing multi-stakeholder rollouts, work that required translating technical requirements into something operations teams could act on. That background shapes how he runs compliance programs now: the gap between a written policy and what staff actually do is a project management problem, and he treats it like one.

Building Security Awareness Training That Sticks

Ryan holds a Master of Education in Educational Technology Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts from UC Riverside. He builds security awareness training using ADDIE, SAM, and Universal Design for Learning frameworks, and delivers programs to SCORM 1.2 and xAPI standards.

The practical difference: he designs for the specific client environment, their staff, their systems, their threat exposure, rather than reusing generic content. When a client’s team completes a training module, Ryan knows whether it changed anything, because the program was built to show that from the start.
