Most Orange County small and mid-sized businesses should expect published market rates of roughly $100 to $250 per user per month for managed IT, and roughly $175 to $400 per user per month once 24/7 security monitoring is bundled in. Those are market ranges drawn from public MSP pricing guides, not AdVran prices. Where your number lands depends on headcount, compliance scope, how much security is included, and whether licenses and on-site visits are in the rate.

What do Orange County businesses pay for managed IT per user?

Few MSPs publish prices, so the best public data comes from provider pricing guides and one Orange County firm that lists its rate. The table below collects them.

Source Published range or price What it covers
Integris $100 to $149 per user per month (average SMB) Service, software licenses, and monitoring
Integris $150 to $400 per user per month 24/7 end-user support, advanced security, consulting
Datapath (2026) $100 to $200 per user per month Core managed IT
Datapath (2026) $200 to $400 per user per month Security-forward managed IT
VC3 $150 to $400 per user per month Full managed IT packages, US and Canada
Corsica Technologies $175 to $325+ per user per month Managed IT plus cybersecurity, including EDR, SIEM, and SOC support
BRITECITY, Irvine $157 per user, $2,500 monthly minimum Published list price for Orange County, security stack included

The ranges overlap a lot, because "managed IT" means different things to different providers. And the bottom of the market goes lower than any of these guides suggest. Kaseya's 2023 global MSP survey found that 22% of MSPs charge $50 to $100 per user per month. Plans at that price usually cover monitoring and patching with limited help desk and little security, so they are a different product from a full-service plan.

For a local reference point, BRITECITY in Irvine lists $157 per user, $17.85 per managed computer, and $16.90 per managed mailbox each month, with a $2,500 minimum, month-to-month terms, and on-site visits included within 25 miles of Irvine. That is one provider's published list price. It is useful as a benchmark because so few Orange County MSPs publish anything.

What does that look like as a monthly bill?

Datapath's 2026 guide gives budgeting scenarios by headcount. At its low, middle, and high assumptions, 50 users works out to $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000 per month, and 100 users to $10,000, $20,000, or $40,000. A quick way to sanity check any quote: multiply your user count by $150. A 25-person office lands around $3,750 a month at that rate. If a quote sits far above or below that figure, find out why before you sign.

Managed IT vs managed IT plus security: what is the difference in price?

The biggest price jump comes from security. A help desk plus patching plan and a plan with 24/7 threat monitoring are priced very differently, and many quotes blur the line.

Datapath's 2026 guide splits it cleanly: core managed IT at about $100 to $200 per user, security-forward managed IT at about $200 to $400 per user. Corsica prices combined IT and cybersecurity at $175 to $325+ per user, noting that the higher cost reflects 24/7 coverage with EDR, SIEM, and SOC support.

Security is now the first thing clients ask about. In Kaseya's 2025 benchmark report, 76% of MSPs said their clients are most concerned about security. IBM's 2025 Cost of a Data Breach report put the average U.S. breach at a record $10.22 million. When you pay more per user for real-time monitoring, that is the risk you are paying against.

If you are unsure what "24/7 monitoring" should mean in a quote, our guide to 24/7 SOC monitoring for SMBs walks through it. AdVran delivers that layer through its SOC monitoring and threat hunting service.

What drives the price of managed IT?

Five factors move a quote more than anything else.

1. User and device count. Per-user pricing scales directly with headcount, but the per-user rate usually drops as you grow. One 2026 guide shows 20-employee firms paying $2,000 to $3,000 a month and 50-employee firms paying $5,000 to $7,000. Small offices also run into minimums. BRITECITY's $2,500 floor means a 10-person firm pays $250 per user in practice.

2. Compliance scope. HIPAA, CMMC, and PCI all add documentation, audit trails, and specific controls. Integris lists regulatory requirements among the main cost drivers. CMMC is the clearest example. The Department of Defense's own final rule estimates that a small company's CMMC Level 2 self-assessment costs $37,196 over three years, assuming outside help at $260.28 an hour. That estimate leaves out the cost of implementing the security requirements themselves. If you handle patient records or defense contract data, expect your quote to carry a compliance line. See our CMMC compliance page and HIPAA compliance page for what that work involves.

3. 24/7 security operations. A plan that includes EDR software but no one watching it is cheaper than a plan with analysts on shift overnight. Ask which one you are buying. Corsica ties the higher end of its range directly to 24/7 coverage.

4. On-site needs. Remote support is cheaper to deliver. Offices with older equipment or physical networks that need hands-on work cost more. One guide notes that firms with modern infrastructure need 40 to 60% fewer support hours. Orange County geography matters too. Ask whether on-site visits to your office are in the rate or billed per trip.

5. Licensing in or out. Some quotes include Microsoft 365, backup, and security licenses. Others list them separately. Integris warns that a proposal can look cheaper by leaving licenses out, then adding them after you sign. Always compare with licenses included on both sides.

What is usually included, and what costs extra?

Most full-service plans cover the day-to-day work. Projects and hardware usually sit outside the monthly rate.

Usually included in the per-user rate Often billed separately
Help desk and remote support Onboarding or setup fee
Patching and endpoint management Project work (migrations, office moves, new servers)
Network and server monitoring Hardware and hardware refresh
Email security and basic endpoint protection 24/7 SOC or MDR, if not bundled
Backup monitoring Compliance reporting and audit prep
Microsoft 365 administration On-site visits outside a set radius
Vendor management After-hours work on some plans

Project work is where surprise costs hide. Integris puts typical project rates at $75 to $200 per hour, and points out that a low hourly rate with no time cap can end up costing more than a higher rate with a fixed fee. Datapath's list of fees to look for includes onboarding, after-hours billing, project labor, tool licensing, compliance reporting, and onsite work.

Red flags in MSP quotes

Some quotes look cheap because they leave things out. Watch for these.

  • A single monthly number with no service list. Datapath's guide says a proposal that only lists a monthly cost is missing the detail you need to compare providers.
  • "Security included" with no names. Ask which EDR product, who watches the alerts, and during which hours. A tool nobody monitors at 2 a.m. does little for you at 2 a.m.
  • Licenses left out. If one quote includes Microsoft 365 and another does not, the cheaper one may not be cheaper.
  • Long lock-in with no exit. Integris notes that standard terms run 12, 24, or 36 months, and that some providers offer a 60-day out clause. Month-to-month options also exist locally, as BRITECITY's published terms show. A 36-month contract with no exit for poor service deserves pushback.
  • "Unlimited" support with fine print. Corsica's own description of fixed-fee plans notes they come with defined exclusions. Read them.
  • No response time in writing. If the quote does not state how fast a critical ticket gets a human response, you have no way to hold anyone to it.

How to compare managed IT quotes side by side

Put every quote into the same shape before you look at the total.

  1. Count the same things. Confirm each quote uses your real number of users, computers, and mailboxes.
  2. Normalize licenses. Add Microsoft 365, backup, and security licenses to any quote that leaves them out.
  3. Match the security level. Compare EDR-only plans with EDR-only plans, and 24/7 monitored plans with 24/7 monitored plans.
  4. Add one-time costs. Include onboarding fees and any required hardware, spread over the contract term.
  5. Check the exit terms. Note the contract length and what it costs to leave early.
  6. Ask for response times. Get first-response and on-site commitments in writing for critical issues.
  7. Ask about compliance deliverables. If you are subject to HIPAA or CMMC, ask what documentation the provider produces and whether it costs extra.

Only then compare the totals.

What does AdVran charge?

It depends on scope, so we do not publish a single per-user number. AdVran's managed IT services and cybersecurity services are priced after we look at your users, devices, compliance requirements, and how much of the security work you want us to own. We are based in Anaheim and support businesses across Orange County. The fastest way to get a real number is a free IT and security assessment, which gives you a written scope you can hold next to any other quote. Questions about contracts, onboarding and support are answered on our FAQ page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does managed IT cost per user per month?

Public 2026 pricing guides put core managed IT at about $100 to $200 per user per month, with security-forward plans at $200 to $400. These are market ranges. Your price depends on scope.

Is per-user or per-device pricing better?

Per-user pricing is simpler when staff use several devices each. Per-device pricing can work better when many people share machines, such as in a warehouse or clinic. Kaseya's survey data shows both models are common, with 28% of MSPs charging $50 to $100 per device per month. Some providers, like BRITECITY, combine a per-user rate with per-computer and per-mailbox fees.

Why do some MSPs have a monthly minimum?

A minimum covers the fixed cost of onboarding, tools, and account management, which does not shrink for a very small office. With a $2,500 floor, a five-person firm pays the same as a 15-person firm.

Does managed IT pricing include cybersecurity?

Sometimes. Basic endpoint protection and email filtering are often included. 24/7 monitoring by analysts usually pushes a plan into the $175 to $325+ per user range. Ask for the security scope in writing.

How much more does compliance add?

It varies by framework and by how far you are from meeting it today. The Department of Defense estimates a small company's CMMC Level 2 self-assessment alone at $37,196 over three years, and that figure excludes the cost of putting the required controls in place.

Are month-to-month managed IT contracts available in Orange County?

Yes. At least one Irvine provider publishes month-to-month terms with 30 days' notice. Others use 12 to 36 month agreements. Longer terms can make sense if they come with a lower rate and a fair exit clause.
